Thank you for interesting story! One acquaitance of mine told something similar about wives of Soviet military. They lived in the closed district for military men and had a very vague idea of what was going outside when USSR collapsed. They didn't know about food shortages and other problems so it's no surprise that they hated the indepedent Ukraine as it opened their eyes to reality.
